Pregnant Women Deliver on Floor As Jharkhand Sub-Centre Has No Beds

Our community correspondent Shanti Kumari Baraik reports from Surhu village in Jharkhand's Gumla district where a medical sub-centre has such poor infrastructure that it can barely treat anyone.

The Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM) working at the sub-centre report that there is no running water in the sub-centre and they have to fetch water from the nearby well.

Between 2017 and 2020, about 75 women have delivered newborns in this village. Yet there is neither water, electricity or beds to treat patients. The ANMs say they have applied to the local administration thrice for beds but the issue hasn't been resolved yet.
